“Eco Change Maker” initiative connects resource circulation, zero-waste practices and upcycling with practical community action and sustainable local business opportunities
JECHEON, SOUTH KOREA — K-MIRACLE has delivered an ESG and eco-friendly experiential program for local residents participating in initiatives operated by the Jecheon Regional Self-Reliance Center.
Held under the theme “Eco Change Maker: Environmental Change Begins with Me,” the program was designed to help participants understand the practical value of resource circulation, zero-waste lifestyles and upcycling while exploring accessible ways to incorporate environmentally responsible behavior into their daily lives.
Rather than presenting ESG as an abstract corporate concept, the program focused on how individual actions can generate broader environmental, social and economic value when connected with community-based projects.
Turning Environmental Awareness into Everyday Practice
The program introduced participants to the principles of resource circulation and demonstrated how waste reduction can begin with simple decisions involving consumption, reuse and disposal.
Sessions examined practical examples of eco-friendly consumption, material reuse, waste separation and upcycling, allowing participants to consider how everyday objects and discarded resources can be given new functions and extended value.
The program was led by Young-shin Ko, Director of the K-MIRACLE Education Center, and was structured around practical environmental activities, sustainable business cases and community-level applications.
Participants explored how responsible consumption and resource reuse can contribute not only to environmental protection, but also to improved community awareness, reduced waste and the creation of new forms of economic activity.
Upcycling as a Model for Local Value Creation
A central focus of the program was upcycling—the process of transforming discarded or underused materials into products with renewed functional, social or commercial value.
A range of domestic and international examples demonstrated how materials traditionally treated as waste can become the foundation for new products, services and community initiatives.
The program also examined how eco-friendly activities are increasingly being connected to entrepreneurship, employment and locally managed business models.
By linking environmental action with practical economic opportunities, the sessions encouraged participants to move beyond the perception that environmental protection and commercial activity must exist in opposition.
